As an inseparable part of modern city, outdoor public recreational spaces can notonly inject vigor to city life, but also serve as an important venue for the closenessbetween human beings and the nature. And the spaces can also represent a city’s brandimage. However, there do exist many problems, such as the late beginning, lack ofenough landscapes and the spirit of places, poor quality etc. All of these lead to a sharpcontradiction between civilians’ increasing demand of leisure life and the relativelybackward landscapes in recreational spaces.Under this circumstances, this paper mainly uses methods such as reference study, theoretical analysis, on-the-spot investigation, contrastive study to make the discussionon the category of outdoor public recreational spaces, and then divide landscapeelements into non-material ones and material ones. On the basis of these, this papermakes specific study taking Jincheng as the example, and draw the conclusion ofexisted problems as well as suggestions on improvement, which includes meeting themain demand to highlight social features; discover the city’s unique features to make itmore recognizable; pay attention on details design to add more artistic flavor. In the lastpart, a semi-closed renovation plan in Yihou pedestrian street is hence formed. This planis believed to represent the city’s specialty and provide a more comfortable venue forthe locals’public activities at the same time. All of these measures are of some values for other cities facing the same situations. However, since factors related to outdoor public leisure spaces are various andcomplicated, small-and-middle cities still need to enhance internal driving power and bring in specialists for better theoretical design. Besides, people’s understanding onlandscapes in outdoor public recreational spaces still need to be improved. For only inthis way can we make full use of the local’s special history features. As a natural result, people’s leisure life will be enriched together with the city’s growing vigor.
