With the rapid development of grid technologies, the concept of smart grid isproposed. To meet the requirements of informatization, interaction and automation ofsmart grid, smart substation came into being. As the core work of building a nationalsmart grid, smart substation construction is the most important thing to enhance theintelligence level in the overall framework of smart grid construction. It builds amodern platform for efficient and reliable operation, monitoring and maintenance forthe substation equipment, and achieves major breakthrough of substation equipmentmanagement model.The difference of the station networking technology between the new generationof smart substation and digital substation is that the network communication structureof smart substation applys point to point communication. According to the designrequirements of smart substation, substation automation system utilizes openhierarchical distributed systems. According to the design of "one network with threelayers ", three nets, MMS, GOOSE and SV,"unite as one". And communicationprotocol uniformly adopt DL/T860communication standard. Situ line protection andmain transformer protection utilize "direct acquisition direct trip". Simultaneously,station domain protection use "net acquisition net trip". In this thesis, in the case ofGao-xin-yuan110kV smart substation, respectively, comprehensive analysis andresearches on feasibility and technological innovation of substation primaryequipment, substation secondary equipment and measures of communications, power,energy saving, and environmental protection are conducted, in order to provide a goodtechnical reference for the technological development of smart substation.
