Fire engineering plays a critical role in preventing fire and reducing firehazards. Operation status of fire extinguisher system is closely related to people’slife and property safety, and society stability. Cost management of a fireengineering project not only affects the success of the project, but also directlyinfluences economic benefit and prospects of the project. Based on the literaturereview on project cost management, cost management for fire engineering projectof S land in Shanghai was qualitatively and quantitatively investigated to exploreeffective measure for cost management and control. The main content and resultsare as follows:(1) The up-to-date theory and application of project cost control weresummarized, with focus on principle, procedure, method of project costmanagement and cost control measure, laying the theoretical ground for thisthesis study.(2) General situation of S land fire engineering was introduced. Project costcomposition and methods for cost planning management were analyzed in orderto clarify the special focus and direction of cost control.(3) Cost control strategies for S land fire engineering project were evaluatedprior construction, under construction and after construction. Project scheduleand earned values differences of cost were analyzed by use of earned valuemethod to assess the status of cost and schedule management of this project. Areasonable scheme of cost control was proposed, with good outcome in practice.This study is a good trial and extension for project management of fire engineering. The main findings are expected to provide new method and feasiblestrategy for solving problems in cost management during fire engineeringconstruction.
