Research Of Regeneration Design Based On Public Space Making In Shangyao Ancient Town

In the background of globalization and urbanization,regeneration of local characteristic town draws more and more attention from the industry and the community. The public space in traditional towns which carries a long-term relatively fixed social interpersonal and public life, is the regional response to the natural environment. It is also the material carrier of the local history and traditional culture and is a reflection on the social history of architecture space effects. Improving public space can effectively activate the overall regeneration of the ancient town.This paper focus on the summary of strategy to build vibrant public space based on the Shangyao ancient town project. After the investigation of Shangyao, spatial pattern, structure and geographical traditions man-land relationship are analysed to conclude a balanced design principle between old and new structure. Under the guidance of these relationships a so called "midpoint" system is established. The "midpoint" system is a proposed small-scale intervention, progressive development and large-scale impaction town regeneration mode. Regeneration design of Shangyao is a city design exploration which may contribute to the rebuild of Shangyao and provide some references for similar renovation town.
