The Renewal Of Space Form In Shangyao Town Based On Space Syntax

In the process of rapid urbanization, the old towns produced with the natural economy are facing the the crisis of survival and development. The renewal of old towns became an important part of work in most regions. To keep the traditional characteristic and to build new houses are mainstream approaches at present. Most renewal design aimed at improving the material environment and their living standard. They considered the spatial logic based on partial function, not the over-all structure.This study focuses on Shangyao town. It tries to judge the suitable renewal means by quantitative analysis on the old town, and to renovate premised on respecting the town’s original core framework. The study work based on Space Syntax and it’s methodologies. Firstly, we carry the syntactic analysis of the traffic network model of Shangyao town. The result tells the space’s vibrant heart and the problems in it’s structure. After some network redesigns and syntactic analysis, it reaches the ideal transportation network. Moving the vibrant heart will improve the unbalanced development. Secondly, we lay the important node spaces based on the result of network’s syntactic analysis to insure their accessibility. Then the convex model can analyze the space’s dominance and the sight model comes up with the visual perception experience. The result will help to optimize the space form. Thirdly, based on continuing the traditional feature, this paper presents some reforming scheme on material environment and functional structure, what coordinates the space’s quantified structure and it’s sociality.Doing renewal with old town’s space based on Space Syntax means new exploration on the premise of protecting the regional culture in urban design. It’s hoped that this study probes into the design thinking of keeping both objective logic and historical context through the reconstruction. Then on the premise of respecting of life pattern, we can renewal the space structure reasonably and progressively to promote the healthy development of the region. It also offers new direction and new way in the field of space reform in traditional town.
