The skin of buildings in hot-summer and cold-winter zone needs to take conflicting functional demands into account:sun-shading and resisting the heat in summer while keeping warm and using solar heat in winter. However, design of building skin and techniques of sun-shading are often considered separately. People usually focusing on visual impact of building skin, ignoring the demands of sun-shading and energy conservation, resulting in many high-energy "air-conditioned buildings". In order to solve the conflicting functional demands in summer and winter, as well as the curious phenomenon that "valuing building skin while ignoring sun-shading" in design, but "valuing sun-shading while ignoring building skin" in use, this paper is divided into the following parts for research:Firstly, the paper investigated the current situation of sun-shading and skin of buildings in Nanjing locally, selected a total of 100 buildings in Xinjiekou area and Hexi New Town, counted and analyzed the building sun-shading as the form, materials, adjustability and construction time. Then the paper summarized problems of sun-shading and skin of the buildings in the zone, proposing integrated design strategy of exterior sun-shading and building skin.Secondly, the paper interpreted a few basic concepts of integrated design of exterior sun-shading and building skin, including effects and classification of building sun-shading; the function, development and construction logic of building skin; the function, development and historical enlightenment of integrated design of exterior sun-shading and building skin. The autor summarized two integrated design strategy as "sun-shading first" and "skin first".Thirdly, the paper elaborated relevant factors of the following two design strategies. " sun-shading first" described seven categories of building sun-shading and texture constitute in the main way of case study; then analyzed the sun-shading form of each building toward with Ecotect daily chart. "Skin first" focused on the impact of generalized elements of nature, culture, and economy, as well as narrow elements of venues, function, volume and structure. Finally, the paper combined "Nanjing Forestry University library " as a project example, quantificatively analyze the factors of integrated design of exterior sun-shading and building skin with formulas and software simulations.
