Up to now, the development of human society has created enormous civilizations both spiritually and materially, but we can see that these are based on the consumption of non-renewable resources. As a result, the environment we live in is deteriorating, meanwhile our energy resources keep decreasing, thus, a severe problem is brought forward:commonly known as energy issues. We need to seek new sources of energy. Of course, renewable energy will probably be the best solution to this problem. The construction industry, as a major energy consumer, should walk in the forefront. With the rapid development of China’s economy, social structure is also changing, so as our requirements for buildings. We begin to pursue a kind of new comprehensive indoor environment, which endows new missions to buildings of new era. Ecological architectures is thus proposed and applied to practice. Among ecological design, the design of ecological skin is especially important. Further research and publicizing of ecological architecture skin is a favorable choice both for long term and short term benefit.Ecological development bears similar significance to sustainable development. It’s a kind of strategic thinking both to meet the needs of the present but also for future generations. Under the theme of ecological architecture, design study of ecological skin, and the corresponding energy-saving technology research and application is even more important. This essay will first exam through the studies of ecological skin both at home and abroad to understand the current domestic and foreign research status. Secondly, the essay will select a few representative buildings in hot-summer and cold-winter area and conduct field research to understand their skins of insulation, natural ventilation and shading and lighting conditions, and analyze the problems of ecological skin in hot-summer and cold-winter areas. In correspondence to the problems found in the study, summarize the supposed properties and characteristics for buildings in hot-summer and cold-winter area, combining them with new energy-saving technology, three-dimensional green system and sustainable technologies such as rainwater recycling to explore design strategies suitable for hot-summer cold-winter areas. Finally, by analyzing cases in hot-summer and cold-winter areas, study the application of these eco-design strategies for reference in the future.
