Zhengding, a national historical and cultural city, is an important military city and holy land of Buddhism of the North China Plain, whose urban spatial morphology has high value of research. This paper aims to provide the theoretical foundation for the space transformation and design of Zhengding and provide a new path for the space research of ancient cities at the same time.Urban space includes an outer overall landscape pattern, overall inner spatial pattern, walls and gates system, architecture space, street space and public space. Zhengding’s spatial form, location, size and pattern are affected by landscape cultural, religion, defense and science, forming four unique space features including enclosed space, orderliness, defensive space and multifunctional spcae. Literature search, field research, data analysis, and contrast induction method are used to analyze the relationship between space and culture. Therefore, the impact of culture on the space should be considered when protect the ancient city of Zhengding. In order to inherit the core of Zhengding urban space, culture context, planners should make an effort to control the space of sign, central zone, axis, road, boundary and area. |
