The sculpture of urban landscape is a continuously perplexing problem in the development process of contemporary urban.In the era of informatization,modernization and globalization,the unique cityscape and distinguishing feature image of city become the urban competitiveness nowadays,both government organizations and urban resident pay close attention to the sculpture of urban landscape.However,the trend of urban space assimilation and homogeneity is always unable to reverse.At present building up special of local urban space still give rise to the contrary situation,the loss of overall urban landscape,as is ascribed to lack of the cognition to urban context in some degree.To recognize the problem at source indeed,it is required to sort,extract and utilization the urban landscape cultural gene with the help of biological theory ‘gene',which could settle the quandary urban landscape encountering.In the perspective of gene metaphor,this article takes "the urban landscape culture of Lanzhou" as research object.Based on the evolution of different urban landscape function zone of Lanzhou,the urban landscape culture gene of Lanzhou was identified and analysed using the method of complexity science.The interaction between original and dominant characteristicsthe of urban landscape culture gene of Lanzhou was also investigated.The research framework of urban landscape culture gene was preliminarily induced,thus to guide the shape of urban landscape of Lanzhou.The article aims to reach the conclusion by studying analyzing the following steps.(1)Definitions and connotations of urban landscape cultural gene.What is the urban landscape cultural gene?
