Travel behavior theory is one of the most important theories in traffic management and control, studies of individual travel behavior is the infrastructure work to grasp the residents travel demand and conduct traffic planning, construction and management. In recent years, our country set public rental housing(hereinafter referred to as public rental) as an important livelihood projects, aimes at addressing affordable housing issues of low-income urban groups. The travel behavior and travel characteristics of public rental inhabitants are quite different from the different classes mixed living populations formed in many of our large cities over the years. In existing travel behavior characteristic findings, there is few studies of public rental residents travel behavior and choice of travel mode. Based on this, this paper carry out research on public rental housing residents travel mode choice behavior.First, based on the theory of travel behavior and deep excavation of public rental residents travel survey data, this paper deeply analysis the residents travel behavior characteristic of peripheral public rental and core public rental from trip purpose, travel intensity, trip distance, travel mode and travel time composing and spatial distribution. Then, extracts the trip characteristics inherent laws and factors travel behavior public rental residents.In the process of public rental residents travel decision-making, transportation mode selection is bound by trip purpose chain, there is a close link between the two. Based on this, this paper proposes trip purpose and mode selection chain joint model, uses NL intevraction model, sets Chongqing City public rental household survey data as a background, buildes trip purpose chain and transportation mode interaction model of public rental residents and quantitative analysis the interaction between public rental residents travel mode choice and trip purpose chain choice behavior. Using SPSS software to calibrate the model, the utility function of various options is given.Finally, based on the statistically, management, transportation planning study, this paper testes the accuracy of public rental residents travel mode and trip purpose chain joint model, and quantitativly analysis the impact of each variable on the choice of travel mode and trip purpose chain of peripheral type and core type public rental residents. Predictes the travel mode choice and trip purpose chain selection results of peripheral-type public rental residents and core type of public rental residents in different family and personal background, travel properties.Analysis the mutual influence relationship of travel modes and travel purposes chain choice behavior. The results show that the model has higher accuracy and strong adaptability. Results of this study has guiding significance in conducting transportation planning, transportation demand management of public rental area and can provide a scientific basis to the development of public rental area’s transportation development strategy.
