With the difference of the residents’ socio-economic attributes, the travel mode features have changed. Meanwhich, the extent to which the effects of city rail transportation service on the livability of a community or the spatial redistribution of residents by various social-economic groups is still inconclusive. We believe that, the connection between the infrastructure construction such as the urban rail transit and the choice of residential location, has a significant influence on the design of city planning and rail transit.Firstly, we analyzed the concept of resident trip and urban rail transit trip, and then concluded the influence factor of urban rail transit trip. Using the relationship between urban rail transit and land use, we focus on the issue of residential land.We establish neural network model, analsizing the factors and the importance of resident trip mode choice affecting by urban rail transit construction, using the data of resident trip survey and rail travel survey. Then, we establish association rules to get relations of attribute characteristics of the trip mode.We learn the features of urban rail transit travelers. Thus we make a further study of which household types tend to move and live nearby urban rail transit. We studied the light rail transit (LRT) rider survey data collected by New Jersey Transit (NJT) in 2008. We establish Heckman sample selection model and elaborate the following two questions:1) Who choose to live/move to the sites around urban rail transit?2) For the movers, how far do they choose to live proximity to the nearest LRT train station? It was found that households with small household size, low income, old householders and few automobiles are more possible to move due to the impact of urban rail transit than other household types when making relocation decisions. Once these households decide to relocate, they tend to choose to walk to arrive at living location, mostly at a distance of half a mile in the station position. The results of model could provide valuable guidance for planners and developers to develop specific housing types, public facilities, and supporting transportation services.
