The elementary school and the secondary school students' trip mode choice has an important impact on the traffic congestion around the campus. The study on the mechanism of students' trip mode choice can provide some reference for alleviating the traffic congestion around the campus.Based on the survey data of The Student Flow and Resident Travel Survey Data of Haining,Zhejiang Province, this paper analyzed the characteristics of students and adults,Whether adults escort on school trips, which generations escort on school trips and the characteristics of students' trip mode choice. The Heckman probit model was used to establish the model of students' trip mode choice based on the condition of adults' accompanying. The binary dependent variable in the outcome equation is a travel mode used by a student in the household, students' mode choice is divided into cares, buses, electric cars, walking and cycling. The results of the model indicate that:(1)The grandparents' escort has no significant effect on the students' mode choice, and the parental escort has a positive and significant impact on the students' choice of the car, bus, walking and cycling.Unaccompanied trip has a negative and significant impact on students' choice of cars, and have a positive and significant impact on buses, walking and cycling.(2)The results showed that family car ownership, parents' occupation, parents' income, household numbers and numbers of worker were the main factors affecting parental escort.(3)The results showed that adults' escort, family transport ownership, household numbers, the numbers of worker bus card are important factors affecting students' mode choice. In addition, the sensitivity analysis of the factors affecting students' mode choice is made. The results show that the marginal effect of having a bus card on student take bus to school is positive in three accompanying states;the marginal effect of family bicycle ownership on student choose bicycle to go to school is positive;and the marginal effect of family car ownership on student take car to school is positive in parent accompanying state. Finally, some suggestions are provided for the formulation of travel structure optimization management strategies based on the results of influencing factors analysis and sensitivity analysis.
