The wind effects produced when the wind flow through the building complex may discomfort pedestrians, cause partial damage of structure and regional environmental pollution. The layout of the large-span structures would influence the local wind direction and wind environment which cannot be neglected.Currently, the main methods of the pedestrian wind environment research include field measurement, wind tunnel test and numerical simulation. Among them, the numerical simulation, which based on the theory of computational fluid dynamics, saving time and effort, has little influent by the conditions of landform, climate, the scale of model. With great flexibility, the numerical simulation has become one important mean on research of the pedestrian wind environment currently. With Longcheng cultural industry city as the engineering background, the research contents of the thesis consist of several aspects as follows:(1) The history and current study status of pedestrian wind environment was reviewed and CFD, another equally important mean on research of the pedestrian wind environment as wind tunnel test, was outlined.(2) The basic theory and methods of numerical simulation of wind environment were introduced. Three main governing equations of CFD, discrete form and discrete method of the equations, turbulence model and its application were also discussed.(3)With FLUENT software, the long span buildings were numerically simulated, which includes generating the three-dimensional geometry model, determining the computational domains, dividing and generating the grid, selecting the reasonable boundary conditions, setting the reasonable solution parameters, calculating and getting the results under different operating conditions. And then the pedestrian wind environment was evaluated based on the results of calculation.(4) Wind tunnel tests of the long span buildings were carried out and the wind velocities of pedestrian level were measured under different wind directions. Comparing the results of wind tunnel tests with the CFD results verified the correctness of the distribution of wind field obtained from numerical simulations. The results of this paper can provide reference on wind environment evaluation for similar structures.
