"The information, automation, interaction, digitization" is the basic requirement of smart grid. To improve the communication channel is of uppermost priority for the intellectualization construction of rural power grid, and it’s also very important for rural power network upgrading. Rural distribution networks have many branches, especially of 10kV and lower voltage, and its wiring environment is very complex. In addition, the villages of power users scattered widely in the mountain areas. At the same time, communication capacity of the rural distribution network communication system is relatively small, and it has also a lot of communication points. Meanwhile, the communication channel environment is very complicated, and the power supply is very unstable. Therefore, the mainstream communication method is very difficult to cover all users, such as electric power optical fiber communication, which has many communication blind spots. This paper aims to design a low cost wireless communication system used in rural power distribution network, which installation is very simple, and it can adapt to the complex condition and villages scattered environment. The system can accomplish the communication between the primary substation and the access point of the dense user area in towns. It uses optical-wireless communication conversion device for communication mode conversion in the main line and branch point. Assisting to the mainstream communication mode, the system will make up the communication blind spots, solves the "last one kilometer" communication problem between feeders and main lines in the rural distribution network. Eventually it will realize two-way communication between the power company and power users.The source and background of the project is analyzed in this design. The overall design of micro-power wireless communication is put forword, through analyzing the function demand and actual application of this project. Meanwhile, according to the functional requirements, the main chips and operating system have been selected in this design. The system is designed into three parts:micro-power wireless terminal, micro-power wireless relay and micro-power wireless switch. The wireless terminal and switch are composed of bottom plate and RF module and network communication core plate.The driver and initialization of the main chip STM32F101 and Si4432 is completed. At the same time, according to hardware design, the definition and specification of the wireless communication protocol is completed. It also realizes the wireless communications and data processing program of RF module. Secondly, to complete the software design and implementation of core board based on Linux, and complete SOCKET network programming and the conversion of TCP packet and wireless communication message. Then, configuration software based on MFC for RF module is realized in this paper. Finally, the overall function test of the system is finished. The system is running well, which worked relatively stable, achieving the expected design requirements.Micro-power wireless communication system makes up for the blind spot problem in optical fiber communication. It has a good application value in the communication system for rural power distribution grid, especially in the mountainous rural areas. Its main function is to complete the communication between the primary substation and the access point in towns, where have dence users. It has been installed at the test site successfully, passed the final acceptance of the panel.
