With the development of monitoring technology at transformer substation especially the improved automation level, industrial production, business and daily life are increasingly dependent on power transmission and distribution. Transformer substation, as the essential link in power transmission and distribution, is imposing higher requirements on automation. The improvement of monitoring system can promote network-based, automatic, digital and intelligent substation management. The establishment of an economic, practical, safe and reliable automation system with advanced technology, high scalability and friendly interface can meet the requirements of high starting point and high standard in substation construction as well as serve as a precondition for safe and stable operation and convenient maintenance of transformer substation. Therefore, it is great significance to reconstruct transformer substation monitoring system.This paper first introduces the three stages throughout the development of monitoring system, its application scope at transformer substation and the reconstruction situation of monitoring system at 110kV Dongqiao Transformer Substation.Then the paper makes a technical analysis of the automation system, discusses the advantages and disadvantages of the centralized structure, decentralized structure, hierarchical and distributed structure and the centralized-decentralized structure, introduces the communication mode of substation monitoring system, and clarifies communication purpose, transmission mode and communication interface. Based on the analysis of characteristics of all structures and communication modes, this paper provides options to monitoring system reconstruction configuration. In addition, the paper also covers monitoring functions in data monitoring, security monitoring, microcomputer protection, on-off operation, running record, tele-control and self-diagnosis and puts forward technical requirements on substation monitoring system so as to lay the theoretical basis for monitoring system reconstruction.Then, in view of the condition before the reconstruction of 110kV Dongqiao Substation monitoring system, the paper proposes design and configuration scheme, including the selection of system structure, system communication mode and hardware configuration.Finally, the paper covers possible danger issues in construction technology during monitoring reconstruction, with pre-control carried out. The update and reconstruction of 110kV Dongqiao Substation monitoring system is the foundation to improve power grid security and stabilize production. It is an imperative engineering project.
