The Evolution And Spatial Morphological Characteristics Of Villages Along Beijing Post-Road

Beijing has a long city development history. The ancient transportation network is an important part of city culture. And this is the same reason which cause the Beijing ancient settlements birth. The four main ancient road in these area continue from Xizhou Dynasty up to now. And it is closely related to the evolution of the Beijing city. There are direct or indirect relationships between ancient road and historical event. The scenery and landscape resource along the post-road are perfect and it has a great value in tourism development. Villages along Beijing post-road is a landmark of social space and culture as important nodes in ancient main road traffic network. The origin, development, evolution, decline and space form of villages are deeply impacted by post-road. This paper is taking the villages along post-road in Beijing Yanqing district as an example. This paper sort out historical development by research on Beijing post-road and villages along the post-road. The evolution and morphological characteristics of villages along Beijing Post-road has been deeply analyzed after field investigation. It will be a theoretical basis for the subsequent development.This paper contains five part. The first chapter summarizes the development status and value of culture, introduced purpose and meaning of the research. It puts forward the importance of carrying out study on villages along post-road combined with the general research situation nowadays. The second chapter systematically expounds the developing background of villages along Beijing Post-road. It reveals the close relationship between villages’ evolution and post-road development. The main research object in third chapter is specific villages in Yanqing area. The current situation has been briefly summarized. The formation and distribution of the villages along post-road has been deeply analyzed. So it could interpret the villages along post-road in a comprehensive view on a larger scale. The analysis in fourth chapter is combining with origin of villages along post-road and the development regulations of villages along post-road is summarized by chronological order. This chapter classifies specific villages according to the status quo of the development. It put forward the contradiction between development and protection which reflected in villages’ status. The fifth chapter summarizes the space characteristics of villages along post-road from three important aspects as village overall space, street space and courtyard space. This chapter analyzes post-road influence on village morphology in detail and summers up the morphological characteristics of this type of village. Finally, the paper has summarized referable and enforceable evaluation standard combined with the conditions of various villages. It has being targeted to focus on exploring the development direction of villages along Beijing post-road and becomes a basic for follow-up study.
