Packaging technology is one of the important light industries in China. With increasing standards of people’s living, people pay more attention to the quality of packaging. Scientific, beautiful, neat and tight package can effectively protect the product itself, facilitate storage and circulation, and also enhance the competitiveness of products sold. It is labor-intensive, slow, poor efficiency and quality that packaging by hand. Thus automated, intelligent, versatile, high-efficiency and low consumption automated packaging lines are more and more popular in the industry. Automated packaging production line can guarantee the product packaging mechanization and automation, which can greatly improve production efficiency, reduce labor intensity, improve working conditions, protect environment, conserve raw materials, reduce product costs, favor the hygiene of packaged product, improve quality of packaging, and enhance the competitiveness in the market. Due to the high accuracy of automated packaging production lines, product can be packaged in neat, uniform and sealed tightly, which can improve the quality of the product packaging, enhance the competitiveness of products sold, and obtain a higher economic efficiency; extend product shelf life and make the transition of product more convenient. Depending on the higher labor cost of product packaging line, developing high-speed, high efficiency, high quality and economical packaging automated production line becomes an urgent demand from the market. Based on the background as mentioned, this thesis is working on the research on automated packaging line. Firstly, this thesis introduces the status of development and research from domestic and foreign; analyzes the research topic and its meaning. Secondly, it describes the technology and theory of automated production lines and the functions of packaging system in product modernization and daily life. Based on the analysis of the main types of packaging mechanism, this thesis does the research on the components and functions of automated packaging lines. Thirdly, this thesis does the research on automated controlling of packaging line, and gives a overall design plan based on a food packaging company. This design plan focuses on the research on working units; software and hardware configure, internal communication and data collecting, and gives suggestions about running and maintenance of automated production line. At last, the research conclusions and prospects are given. The research in this thesis makes a great sense for reducing the labor cost in food packaging, promoting the health development of grapefruit industry and the market competitive power.
