| The purpose of this thesis is studying urban ’home-school’ space, and it further studied primary school pupils’ ’home-school’ social spatial structures. The thesis aims to improve education facilities related technical standards, and provide suggestions of education policy.A framework for ’home-school’ spatial structures analysis was drawn referenced from the studies of social space, spatial sociology and Structuralism. The thesis chose four elementary schools of Haidian district as the research object, and mainly studied students’ ’home-school’ social and spatial characteristics and ’home-school’ social spatial structures. The thesis built a model of urban ’home-school’ spatial structures that is suitable for the current social context. The result was that school service radius differed in different area, and the service boundary was not stable. Students ’travel time and pattern had changed, and family conditions influenced the spatial results. So ’service radius’ is no longer a fixed distance value.Based on the results, the thesis put forward the concept of’Isochronal Service District’ and the selectable and flexible isochronal spatial planning principle to adjust school planning standards. Under this principle, the thesis provided several methods of school layout planning, such as spatial defining of Isochronal School District and adjustable elastic boundary. The thesis also provided detailed planning methods to improve school surrounding environment, such as setting the ’buffer area’,’safe zone’, coordinating the public transportation, improving walking environment and regulating nearby commercial facilities. The thesis gave few education policy suggestions, such as scribing small school district and big school district, balance the education quality of all the schools. The thesis’s final purpose is improving students’ and their parents’ quality of life. |
