As to history of university development, it’s not hard to see that a thousand years ago academy had already had the mark of the courtyard during tang dynasty. Both at home and abroad, the courtyard often played an important role in the organization of university construction space. Teaching area’s courtyard space is a very crucial part of the courtyard space in colleges. It is the nearest green space where college students study, relax and associated with others in their spare time. A high quality landscape or environment of courtyard space should not just embody its high afforest rate or beautiful scenery, it should embody own unique style and connotation of a college. More importantly, it should meet the actual needs of college student users and subtly promote students’ academic performance and personality or quality training, etc. At present, many of teaching area’s courtyard space are very featureless, unreasonable and indifferent. Therefore, it is essential for policy makers, designers and managers to make the design truly embody “humanization” and fulfill student users’ actual needs in the further construction of courtyard space.The paper selected college student users who are in the university teaching area’s courtyard space as the research subject to carry out the study. The results obtained from the research are discussed as follows.1. By investigating student users’ utilization characteristics, it obtained a series of results. Among them, some indicates that nearly 80% college students select to study, to date personals and to rest alone as the main activity type, and nearly 80% students’ utilization frequency is at least two times or more a week. Therefore, we should attach much importance to dealing with activity partition and privacy and publicness of courtyard space.2. Analytical Hierarchy Process was used to construct the evaluation system of university teaching area’s courtyard space and obtain the Index weight values at all levels of evaluation system. Among them, some indicates that the relative weight of plant landscape is the highest in the 2 class indexes of space garden landscape, followed by park essay; the relative weight of cleanliness is the highest in the 3 class indexes of space environment quality, followed by quietness. Therefore, we should focus on constructing the landscape for plant and park essay, and take full account of the environment for cleanliness and quietness etc in the further design of courtyard space.3. Fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method was used to evaluate the two teaching area’s courtyard space of the north campus of Shandong Agricultural university. Among them, some indicates that overall environment and landscape of 5S teaching area’s courtyard space is relatively successful, but there are still some problems; and yet Water Conservancy Institute teaching area’s courtyard space is average. In the future, people should aim at improving these problems so as to meet the real needs of of the college student users in these courtyard spaces.
