Under the trend of the national college enrollment expansion and the higher education’s total scale’s geometric growth, the campus’s construction is far behind the enrollment, especially in the design of in-between space, for example, courtyard, corridor, opening framework design and the square design before teaching building.The architecture’s dimensions and properties play an important role in the design of courtyard, but architects always pay little attention to these aspects. Though In-between space is designed to be the communication platform for public, it is just the wishful thinking of the designers. In the spare time, there are few students there. Maybe because the In-between space doesn’t form a small environment, has little private room, inappropriate dimensions or flow organization and so on, people don’t want to stay here.Corridor is just given the traffic function in many cases, while actually it carries with the task of public communication. A good design corridor provides the exchange platform for students to spend their spare time while the ordinary one is only the transport hub. During the peak time, there is crowded and vice versa.At first, many teaching building ground floors are designed to opening framework to alleviate the traffic pressure and increase architectural space transparence. Because of worrying about space waste, the space is fulfilled with cars and rooms for cleaning tools. So the opening frameworks are always in an embarrassing position.The square’s spatial organization, in front of the teaching buildings, is always influenced by the government’s construction. In order to pursuit the building mighty image, the teaching space and non-teaching space are separated by the hard pavage. This kind of architectural style makes the building so solemn that it isn’t suitable for studying.On some campus, the teaching building’s space is traditional distributed ways which is the main wing structure under the control of main axis. Similar to the ancient city planning, the different departments are arranged in combinations respectively. In administrative management, every department has its library, administration and other facilities."Small but complete" mode weakens the mutual exchange further and the teaching building’s utilization. This distribution results the embarrassing situation that different departments have no contact with each other. Both teachers and students take the classroom as a temporary place for studying.Therefore, the In-between space should show the design animus of good learning atmosphere while it can keep the pace with various campus lives. Regardless of function or form, the constructions’final aim is to serve majority of students.
