Because a lot of train running status information related to the operation of the locomotive are obtained from the environment in which the cab, the design of locomotive cab driver’s visual display interface has a special significance to operation safety. With the depth study of the development of high-speed train, the number of the visual information and the locomotive driver’s workload are increased continually. Thus, the design requirements to driving visual interface become more stringent. As a typical human-machine system, the design philosophy of locomotive cab transformed to human-oriented from machine-oriented. The study on trainman’s driving fatigue, cognitive load and situational awareness have caused more attention at the same time, therefore this paper attempts to study on the optimized design of locomotive driving interface from the aspect of trainman’s color preference.Through in-depth analysis of man-machine system, we must analyze the locomotive driver’s driving characteristics and the impact of color to locomotive drivers for designing the display interface. The theory of color preferences is also analyzed detail. After in-depth analysis of the previous research, we program through E-prime 2.0. Using red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet, gray, white, black these 10 kinds of color as stimulus, studying the drivers’ color selection for representing visual display interface. We process the data with EXCEL, and we got relevant conclusionsThe results show that the eight information attributes, only air brake was not suitable to characterize the property using color. The other seven kinds of attributes could be presented using different color and had high objective consistency. Meanwhile, according to Z scores, the color sequence for presenting traffic attributes was given out. For the other 7 kinds of bipolar attributes, which are train connections, parking spaces, train doors, bogie, contactors, communication status and pantograph, the best color matching program was given.
