With the development of industry, crane plays an important part in equipment manufacturing and transport terminal. Crane safety monitoring system is also very important. China launched GBT 28264-2012 "Crane Safety Monitoring and Management System" in 2012, which clearly showed that the parameters of crane safety monitoring system. In this paper, a new kind of crane safety monitoring system is designed based on programmable logic controller (PLC) referring to the standard. The system has a real-time file storing system.Firstly, the standard was studied in order to extract the parameters of crane safety monitoring system. The requirement and resource of crane safety monitoring system were showed by analyzing the rules of data change. The basic structure of the monitoring system was also given in the paper according to the requirement and resource of crane safety monitoring system.Then, the crane safety monitoring system was developed by designing structure of monitor controller device in embedded software and hardware. The structure of file storing was also showed in the paper. In realizing file storing system, it is introduced in three parts namely, the driver of SDIO bus, implementation of FAT File System (FATFS), and the improvement of data storing. In order to realize the function of refreshing data at every 100ms in the standard, the timeout exit mechanism of SD card driver was established in terms of the timing process in operation system. A storage technology was developed and used in the system. The system saved data only when data was changed. It reduced the quantity of data to be saved and improved the efficiency of SD card as well. A high efficient communication method was developed, which could enable the stability of data transmission on the one hand, and reduce the message quantity in the process of data reading from SD card on the other hand. A communication method in unstable network environment was designed. The message marked the data in the same way compared to the monitor controller device. In this case, it can accurately read every piece of data and avoid data error or historical data missing problems caused by network interruption.A real-time file storing system was realized in the paper. The experimental results showed that the proposed device could store the monitoring data correctly and didn’t lost data when storing files. The system has a good reliability and stability, which is in line with national standards and reaches the designing goal.
