The Northeast Cold Region Water Campus Landscape Design Research

With the constant progress of the society, a strong "leapfrog" momentum of development is emerging in china ’ s higher education.People are gradually increasing their request on the campus environment and landscape since college enrollment expansion and construction of new campus have been advanced rapidly. How to design a campus environment and landscape to meet teachers and students work, study, life and mental requirements and how to create a campus water landscape rich in geographical and cultural characteristics have become a new research topic. Based on such backgrounds and requirements, the paper has adopted methods combining literature review and on-the-spot investigation to research the campus water landscape in universities of frigid northeast region. The paper also puts forward water landscape design principles and expressions so as to improve theories and methods for creating campus water landscape. Four parts are included in this paper.The first part describes the background, purpose, importance,content and methods of this paper and generalizes and analyzes theresearch status at home and abroad.The second part encapsulates the water landscape and its relevant content. Also this part determines definitions of some concepts, such as“water landscape” and “water landscape design”. What’s more, the water landscape shapes, types, functions and its cultural connotations,constitutive elements and forms are given a full account.The third part summarizes some principles, including regional,human nature, cultural and ecological principles that should be followed to design campus water landscape in universities of frigid northeast region. At the same time, the factors, including the nature, humanity and also the behavioral characteristics and mental requirements into which are needed to take careful consideration when creating campus water landscape are discussed in this part. Based on the above, the design expression is proposed.The fourth part mainly takes one typical university of frigid northeast region--Jingyue campus of Northeast Normal University for instance. Through on- the-spot investigation and questionnaire survey, the current situation of campus water landscape is clear and definite and the main problems existing in campus water landscape are generalized. Also this part proposes the principles, strategies and specific programs foroptimizing the water landscape design.Research and thinking on the campus water landscape in universities of frigid northeast region are designed not only to further improve the theoretical system of campus water landscape design, bur also to provide vital reference for campus water landscape design in this area. Such research and thinking also play a momentous role in helping the campus water landscape design of this area take less or none wrong path and embark on a profound and sustainable-development road.
