With the development of the smart grid, the smart substation fault recorder emerging. The fault recorder can get plenty of valuable data through recording voltage data, current data and result of protection operation in power system. The worker can analyze the fault cause and make countermeasures by analyzing the voltage, current, active power, reactive power and frequency which we get by calculating the recorder data. Hence, the fault record analysis system plays a key role in ensuring a safe and reliable operation of the power system, and it is an important part of power system automation. The smart substation appearance promotes and facilitates the development of fault recorder technology, including improve recorder configuration, sampling method and way of wiring, as well as represents high standards in fault recorder technology.Based on integrated monitoring and command platform, this paper presents a smart substation fault recorder analysis system which consist of a data acquisition and recording system, a data transmission system, a data analysis system and a data management system. The data acquisition and recording system using embedded distributed recording method to generate record files. The data transmission system transfers the record file to data analysis system and data management system. The data analysis system can show voltage and current wave, calculate electric quantity, analysis protection performance characteristic. Then data management system can manage files of fault record data and analysis result.The data analysis system serves basic analysis function and advanced analysis function. The basic analysis function includes display waveforms such as show each channel sampling data so users can know the time and types of fault and extract fixed period basic electric quantities from data record file, for example the fundamental and every harmonic amplitude and phase of voltage and current wave. We can also get electric quantities of different time through move the arrow in waveform. The advanced analysis function includes analyze the performance characteristic of distance protection and pilot protection. Based on fault record data, the performance characteristic analysis of distance protection can show the trace of measured impedance and performance characteristic of impedance and judge whether the fault occurs or not. The performance characteristic analysis of pilot protection includes analysis direction comparison protection and differential protection, such as calculate power direction, differential current and brake current.The paper uses VC++ language in VS2008, Qt 4.3.0 platform develop the above functions and using laboratory test program through the Windows environment. The result of test shows that this system can make full use of fault record data and repre-sent the electric quantity changing processes.
