Islam, which is one of the global religions, had been introduced in China and widely disseminated since Tang dynasty. More than ten Chinese minority nationalities believe in Islam. These Mohammedans live in different areas with various environments and cultures, which makes Chinese mosques differ from each other in structural, lay out, building material and decoration, thus show various ethnic and regional features.Mosques in northwest Shandong province was built in Yuan dynasty and flourished in Ming dynasty. As part of Chinese Islamic architectural decoration art, as well as Chinese traditional architectural decoration art, the decorative art of these mosques stands for the fusion of not only the two Architectural decoration arts but also the aesthetics of the different cultures. This paper proceeded from studying Islamic architectural decoration art in northwest Shandong, and interpreted the affect that the regional culture has in Islamic architectural decoration art as well as the changes that traditional Islamic architectural decoration art had made. It also analyzed how the changes embody under the influences.The author proceeded from the subject matters, materials and colorations of pattern decorative art through the analyzation of specific cases, so as to conducted researches and summaries, as well as interpreted its regional and aesthetic features. This paper also investigated the basic laws of pattern designation art in newly built mosques, so as to offer provide design ideas for new mosque building and decoration.
