Study On The Planning Integration Of Peripheral City Under The Background Of Metropolitanization

Since the 1990s, with the development of regional urbanization and urban regionalization, metropolitanization is the main trend of urbanization. As a part of metropolitan area, peripheral city plays an important role in the growth of metropolitan area. In the process of multidimensional integration of metropolitan area, the peripheral city how to meet their own intra-regional "bottom-up" area, town, village development of multi-level demands and the center of the city "top-down" functional reorganization and space reconstruction requirements, which is actively integrated into the construction of the metropolitan area, plays an important role in regional coordinated development and competitiveness of the metropolitan area. The background of this thesis is cities integrate to metropolitan area. The thesis explores the separation of central city and peripheral city during the period of China’s metropolitan area development. From perspectives of metropolis, urban and rural space and city centre, the thesis proposes the planning integration path of the peripheral city. There are four parts in the thesis.Part I:Basic researchFirstly, this thesis raises research questions under the background of metropolitanization, then defines the research area and related definitions, finally introduces related international and domestic research, which lays a basis of the subsequent research.Part II:Question explorationBased on the interpretation of the relationship between center city and peripheral city, this thesis analyzes the integration issues of the center city and peripheral city in detail. It is considered that these integration issues such as regional competition, repeated construction and environment pollution, phenomena of fragment space and marginalization, influences the function in the growth process of metropolitan area. Then there is pointed out that the prevalence of administrative economy, defects of the market mechanism, the lack of regional coordination mechanisms and policy-oriented is the main reasons of the separation of the central city and peripheral city.Part III:Solution pathTo avoid the separation of central city and peripheral city, the planning integration thoughts of peripheral city are proposed, that spatial organization mode transforms from traditional urban system to the spatial pattern of the metropolitan area,spatial pattern of governance transforms from isolated earthquake type to harmony type, relations between city and countryside space transform from urban and rural separation to urban and rural harmonious, space growth mode transforms from extension type to intension type. Based on the planning integration thoughts proposed above, firstly the principles are pointed out, then the paths of the planning integration, that metropolitan scale-enhance coordination with central city, urban and rural scale-improve peripheral city space, central city scale-integration of the resources in the peripheral urban and rural space,are constructed.Part Ⅴ:Case studyTaking HuaiYuan County as an example, this thesis analyzes the relationship between center city (BengBu City) and peripheral city (HuaiYuan County), and problems appeared in the process of development under the background of Bengbu Metropolitan Area.
