Tailing pond is one of the mine production’s three control projects. also a special kind of industrial buildings, and also an important part of the construction of metal mines. Most tailings pond were constructed in the valley upstream, while the downstream valley or the open land has residential, transportation and communication facilities and so on. Once tailings dam was damaged, a large number of tailings sand what stored in the tailings pond pouring down forming debris flow, this high potential debris flow have huge damaging effects. To the downstream people’s lives and property is a disaster. Therefore, have a research on the debris flow evolution law of damaged tailings dam, to fully understand Its disaster characteristics and Its prevention work has important significance.This paper’s background is a tailings pond project of Chengde city. Combined model test and numerical simulation research methods, had a comprehensive and systematic research on the debris flow evolution law of damaged tailings dam. The main contents are as follows:(1)had a comprehensive summary of debris flow’s rheological properties and research methods. For the rheological properties of debris flow, Introduced the process of debris flow’s development. Focuses on the Bingham- model, which widely used in the research of debris flow. For the research methods of debris flow, respectively introduced by model tests, empirical formulas and numerical simulation three aspects.(2)Take a tailings pond of Chengde city as an engineering background. Through some related soil tests on tailings sand. Get the basic parameters of tailings sand, such as particle size gradation, physical and mechanical properties and so on. Provide basic data for the experimental and numerical simulation model.(3)Based on the similarity theory of debris flow of damaged tailings dam, in accordance with the design information and mountainous terrain data of the prototype tailings pond, established the model test system of debris flow of damaged tailings dam. By observing and recording the evolution progress of debris flow of damaged tailings dam, analysis the submerged area, advance speed and submerged depth data etc of debris flow of damaged tailings dam, get the motion law of debris flow of damaged tailings dam.(4)Based on the information of the tailings pond, Assume that the debris flow of damaged tailings dam as a Bingham fluid,established a three-dimensional debris flow numerical model of the tailings pond, and used the debris flow results of the model test to verify the results of the numerical simulation. After that, set different viscosity of the debris flow in numerical models, simulated the downstream evolution progress of the different viscosity debris flow, By analyzing the variation of submerged area, advance speed, submerged depth of the different characteristics location of the debris flow of damaged tailings dam, Get the evolution law of the debris flow of damaged tailings dam influenced by different viscosity.
