Now, the asynchronous traction motor is used more and more in the high-power electric locomotive and EMU, due to its advantages, such as simple structure, larger traction, higher adhesion performance. But this technology is less applied in the industrial and mining diesel locomotive. So this paper researches the AC driving industrial and mining diesel locomotive which conforms to the developing direction of the domestic railway locomotive industry.In this paper, the top-down design methodology is used to design the drive system of the industrial and mining diesel locomotive. The main design process is as follows. Firstly, the theoretical analysis is carried out based on the essential data offered by the user which include traction tonnage, vehicle speed, operating environment and so on. Secondly, according to the theoretical analysis results, a set of traction mathematical model suitable for the industrial and mining locomotive is established which can be used to calculate the locomotive performance parameters and the output parameters of the main traction driving components. The locomotive performance parameters include the locomotive service weight, axle loads, the power and so on, and the main traction driving components is comprised of diesel generators,traction converters and AC asynchronous motors. Thirdly, a computer program inserted by the traction mathematical model is written by the VB software which can automatically complete the calculating and checking relevant parameters and plotting traction curve diagram. And then, the Access database is used to store the back-end data of the written computer program including the input parameters and output parameters, the data of the main traction driving components, so it is very convenient to call or inquiry data.The locomotive model and line model are established by the 3Ds Max software and are imported into the VR Platform, and then the VB software is used to the secondary development of the computer program written by the VB software. Lastly, the functions of the system and platform are coordinated to make the software run easily and smoothly and output the full data.Based on the above researches, taking the AC driving industrial and mining locomotive as the research object, a virtual design platform is established which makes the related analysis and calculation easier, design cycles shorter, production efficiency higher and production costs lower.
