Recent years, the production and sales of automobile have more than 20 million in China. With the development and progress of auto industry, it not only improved the quality of our citizens’ life, but also brought negative issues such as environmental pollution, energy consumption and safety issues ect. In this case, a great challenge for the automobile energy consumption and emissions and safety requirements was brought forward. In order to reduce fuel consumption and improve the efficiency, the major automobile manufacturers and research institutions studied the improvement and development of the automobile engines and transmissions, the study of lightweight of automobile was also methodically at the same time.The main content of this paper is to design and research on the lightweight about a low flat frame of heavy duty truck. The development of lightweight vehicles at home and abroad were described in this paper, it also summarized and analyzed the type of low flatbed frame, structural design, manufacturing processes, lightweight pathway ect;the structure of low flatbed truck was analyzed through ANSYS software to receive the data of the stress and deformation of the frame in various conditions; the model of frame was analyzed to receive the natural frequencies and vibration mode; the optimization design of the part structure of the frame was studied to analyze the results of the optimization in static; it is studied that the field of using high strength steel replace the original steel frame in equal strength to analyze the strength and stiffness situation of the new frame.The study results showed that: the strength and stiffness of the original low flatbed frame met the requirements in simulated conditions, and it also has the leeway for lightweight design; the frame structure could better avoided the resonance phenomenon during use; the optimization process study of the part structure of the frame provided a certain theoretical reference for the overall optimization of the frame, it also reduced the weight of the frame beams in 13.25%; the application of using high strength steelreplaced the original steel frame in equal strength which significantly reduced the weight of the low flatbed frame, the strength and stiffness of the new frame also met the requirements, lightweight results were obvious.
