The shield tunneling machine is a type of sophisticated and complicated engineering equipment which integrates many subjects such as machinery, electrics, hydraulics, measurement and control, is specifically applied in underground tunnel excavation. As the most core components of the shield tunneling machine, the design and analysis of cutter head with complex structure should be made in the light of local conditions combined with concrete construction. This paper completed the design of the cutter head hydraulic drive system for shield tunnel machine, the simulation and analysis of the system using the AMESim simulation software. This will help to improve the technical level of manufacturing design of shield tunneling machine and provide the basis to design and manufacture the shield tunnel machine in the future.The main contents of this paper are as follow:Firstly, the work principle and classification of shield tunneling machine were described, then the history and present of the shield tunneling machine was introduced based on a lot of publications and conference papers, consequently, the research and goal of the project were brought forward.Secondly, according to the design requirements for the cutter head hydraulic drive system, designed the system by the closed loop control with the variable displacement pump control and the variable speed pump control, then analyzed the structure and working principle of system. According to the main technical parameters of the system, the design include parameter calculation, performance calculation, selection of the hydraulic components and the structure of the integration valve and hydraulic pump station.Thirdly, the mathematical model of the main hydraulic components had been set up. From the variable pump-quantitative motor system and the quantitative pump-variable motor system, the mathematical model of the variable pump- variable motor was established, and put forward the prioritization scheme of the main parameters which can effect the system.Finally, make the establishment of a cutter head hydraulic drive system in AMESim, and set up the engineering parameters and run the simulation, build the cutter head hydraulic drive system model. We concluded that the rotation speed of the cutter head can vary with the speed signal changes and the system has good following performance through the simulation and analysis of the system. The model of the cutter head hydraulic drive system based on the technology of AMESim and Simulink, the system has good stability and adaptability. Then make the practical verification by the debugging equipment of NHI.
