Study On The Large Sports Facilities And The Development Of Urban Space

Famous championships, all over the fast urbanized world such as Olympic Games, AsianGames, National Games，etc., propels bunch of cities in China and abroad to seek developmentopportunities brought by mega sports events. There is no fixed word for “major sports events”in Chinese and there are even different definitions in different sectors. Nevertheless, itstremendous influence brought by it is apparent. It does not only mean a sports’ game but also animportant strategy to enhance the functions and develop the spatial structure of the city. Inparticular, These events are vital to the city’s sustainable development and organic growthparticularly; therefore it is regarded as a chance to address the old problems and promote theurban development. It is a problem worthy to discuss that what is the relationship between thefacility locations of the major sporting events and urban spatial developments so as to make useof these events.The whole paper is divided into six parts which are abstract, theories about major sportingevents and urban spatial structure, case study of the promotion of mega sport events facilitylocation to urban development, study of the relationship between mega sport events siteselections and urban spatial structure. Specifically.This paper starts with worldwide major sports events facility location and urban spatialdevelopment, by defining the exact wide meaning of them, analyzing worldwide cases andestablishing the relationship between them and among each element, to set a base for exploringthe general pattern of the connections of mega sport events and urban spatial structuredevelopment. Meanwhile, a study has been done in the case of Nanjing National Games tracksand the trend of Youth Olympic Games development; The optimization strategies have beenbrought forward.Due to the complicity and limit of my knowledge and time, this paper could only analyzethe case from the angle of material space and conclude the regular pattern, assessment andadvice have been given, hope these preliminary results could help the related research. There are inevitable imperfections in this paper, and need much deep work to study andadvance.
