Research On Vernacular Dwelling In Dongxiang Zhenjiang

China’s ancient villages and their culture protection have gained the attention of thesociety from various circles nowadays. As the main part of the ancient villages and importantcarrier of the culture of the ancient villages, the dwellings of ancient villages should be paidmore attention to by our architecture academia. These ancient dwellings are importantrepresentatives of Chinese vernacular architecture as well as the cultural heritage of ancientChinese farming civilization. It’s our sacred duty to do research and protect them. But now, asthe changes of the times with the rapid development of society, the vernacular dwellings arefaced with a serious crisis. In2011, Professor Wang Yongping found a lot of ancient villagesand a large number of local folk houses in Zhenjiang Dongxiang, which are suffering from thesame situation as the local folk houses throughout the country.This thesis mainly focuses on this old vernacular dwelling in Dongxiang Zhenjiang.Through the investigation and mapping as well as referring to the relevant literature, thisthesis analyzes the natural geographical environment, historical development, cultural villagespace, and trace back to the origin and development of the this region from the perspective ofarchitecture. Then it discusses the details about the local characteristics and constructionfeatures of the existing old local-style dwelling. Through the contrast with the surroundinghouses, its own characteristics has been reflected, its characteristic of cultural and artisticvalue is further discussed. At last, protections and development methods are put forwardthrough the analysis of the current situation of the contemporary local old local-styledwelling.There are seven constituent parts of this thesis: The first chapter is the introduction andthe general idea is put forward. Including the origin of this subject and the significance of myresearch, illustrates the research target and method, and defines the concept and scope of theresearch. The second chapter discusses the history evolution and formation as well asdevelopment factors of Zhenjiang Dongxiang residential. The third chapter is a simpleclassification and introduction to the existing types of Zhenjiang Dongxiang dwellings. Thefourth chapter analyzes the local characteristics and construction features of ZhenjiangDongxiang vernacular residential. The fifth chapter focuses on analyzing the most distinctiveelement of Zhenjiang Dongxiang dwellings-the doors. Chapter six further discusses thecharacteristics of Zhenjiang Dongxiang dwellings through the analysis of the geographicalposition of the nearby folk houses in Nanjing, and the comparison of their similarities anddifferences. Chapter seven analysis the present situation of Zhenjiang Dongxiang dwellingsand elaborates its historical value, then a conception of how to protect it is put forward.
