As the start of the industrial revolution in the mid-18th century, the development of the city brought dramatic changes in people’s lives. The industrial revolution brought important technical changes and the rapid urbanization process also. Today, like many other developing countries, China is in the acceleration of urbanization and industrialization process. The continuous development of social economy, the constant change of social system and the city’s expanding have led to more and more abandoned places and wasted landscape’s resources in the city’s areas. We call this urban phenomenon resulting from the abandoned and wasted zones "Drosscape". Destroying the city’s ecological continuity, his cultural continuity and his aesthetic value,"Drosscape", the wasteland especially is a burden to the sustainable urban development. In the1970s, Paris, capital of France, has been out of the process of industrialization and enters a de-industrialization’s phase. The wasted areas resulting from this process have been transformed into some new and dynamic zones in the city through many landscape’s projects. Therefore, in the overwhelming wave of urbanization, our country should learn from the experience of the construction of Paris and put on the agenda the treatment of the wasteland in the "Drosscape" as soon as possible in order to have a new spatial planning by integrating these resources. In this process, we may provide, by landscape design and technique, a creative thinking and design perspective for the sustainable development of cities. With a clear definition for the terms "Drosscape" and "Wasteland", the article establishes a classification of wasteland according to the different use form of them. The article reviews the evolution of urban environment, the origin of the "Drosscape" and the problems encountered in the urbanization process. Through the analysis of the urban environmental construction in various periods, the authors try to spotlight the historical contribution and his driving force to the urban sustainable development, which is brought by the landscape urbanism in the treatment of "Drosscape". Using a systematic study on landscape urbanism’s concepts, the article reports the author’s investigations on site achieved in Paris about the urban environmental construction and his successful experiences converting the wasteland converted into open space, including Parc Andre citroen, Parc de la Villette, Parc departemental des Cormailles, Parc de Bercy. From an ecological, cultural and aesthetic viewpoint, these cases studies review the landscape urbanism’s approaches in these Paris’s urban constructions and try to point out their demonstrative role towards our country about wasteland’s transformation. Finally, from the assessment of the practical and the theoretical study in the Paris’s experiences about the transformation of the wasteland, the article explore the perspectives and promises which the landscape urbanism’s policy may be able to bring in China when their principals and methods are adapted to the China’s situation.
