With the development of science and technology, general airplane, as a new product, hasbeen gradually into the sight of people, so the development of general aircraft becomes animportant topic in today’s attention. In current society, traditional general aircraft with enginehas been developed into a mature stage, while electric aircraft has just started but stillstagnated now because of the battery’s low energy density. At present, the advantages anddisadvantages of the two planes are different, but in accordance with the current level ofscience and technology, the two types of aircraft are unable to solve its existing problems. Sosome scholars attempt to design a new type general aircraft named hybrid aircraft, accordingto the advantages of the two existing aircraft. After a careful analysis of general aircraftoperation in the world and the current development trend of the hybrid cars, the writer thinksthat hybrid aircraft will be one of the mainstream development directions of future aircraft. The writer develops a new hybrid-electric aircraft referencing the hybrid car andconsidering Canadian diamond DA20c1plane as prototype aircraft. Hybrid-electric aircraftrequires us to keep the basic flight performance and to reduce the quality, the writer finallychooses the parallel hybrid-electric system which is simple in structure, compact layout, reasonable and matching. In the parameter matching of hybrid system, the writer checkedvarious types of engines, motors, battery, generators and transmission system components andthen selects the best one. Taking the quality, performance, price, etc. into consideration, thenchoose the relatively suitable device and the system. At last, the writer designs the structure ofthe hybrid system accurately and the installation location. With component selected, a test toverify the practicability and superiority of the hybrid aircraft must be taken. According to theaircraft aerodynamic calculation formula and the aerodynamic parameters of the aircraft itself,MATLAB is used to program, and the performance of took-off running, climbing and flyingspeed, fuel consumption will be simulated. The results show that the installation size of new hybrid system is close to the original engine, so it can be installed on the aircraft easily. On the premise of guarantee the basic flightperformance of aircraft, hybrid-electric aircraft taxiing distance is shortened by20-30%, andrate of climb is increased by20-26%, and single flight climbing height to1000m, fuelconsumption reduces over50%. Although the maximum sustainable velocity of thehybrid-electric aircraft will be slightly reduced, maximum velocity, endurance, range iscorresponding increased. At the same time, because the motor can work alone, the security ofthe aircraft is greatly increased. From what has been discussed above, the modified hybridaircraft is more suitable for flight training, tourism and other entertainment flight.
