Research, development and use of new clean energy sources, especially solar energy, has provided an important way to coordinate the relation of energy and environment, cope with the shortage of energy, and implement the sustainable development of human society. Solar energy is widely distributed and inexhaustible "green" Renewable Energy and is one of the best solutions to address the energy crisis in the world.However, in the application of large-scale photovoltaics, there are still many problems, including lower conversion efficiency, higher cost, etc. Therefore, in order to increase the efficiency of power generation and photovoltaic power generation the automatic tracking photovoltaic device should be utilized to replace the fixed solar PV panels.In this thesis, the study has been made on the project background of solar collector technology and application,which is from Academia Sinica, Shanghai Electric. By analyzing the variation of azimuch and elevation angle of the sun and the requirement of tracking control, we construct the overall architecture of tracking control system. This design chooses TMS320F2812digital signal processor (DSP) of TI Company as the core control chip and the DC servo motor with position sensors as actuators to control the panels support shaft pitch angle. Moreover, the wind speed monitoring and protection is also considered. The real-time communication with the host computer can be achieved. There ere two different modes of operation, i.e., manual and automatic, which can ensure the stronger resist interference and robustness, and achieve the automatic track of the sun. The on-line experiment results show that the designed track controller has better performance and can significantly improve the power generation efficiency of the photovoltaic power generation.
