On reviewing the historical process of reducer design and reducer series design, thispaper summarizes the development rules of reducers and reducer series at home and abroad,and distinguishes the characteristics between general reducer and special reducer, so to putforward design ideas and methods of new series reducer based on output torque to determinethe series spectrum. Main contents and methods are as following:(1)Taking bridge crane base type hoisting reducer as an example, it analyzes reasonableoutput torque spectrum in accordance with the R20priority, so to meet the needs of outputtorque selection and avoid much power waste.(2)Reasonable control on the total number of gears used for series reducer to make thetorque and ratio spectrumof the series. To design relevant parameter values based on rationalbend and contact fatigue strength and the common features of gear pair, via calculating eachcenter distance and eliminating unreasonable gear pair to determine the gear pair in sequence.(3)Comprehensive overview on structural design of series reducer box and design of theother parts and emphasis on the records of production assembly process data to prepare forthe further optimization of gear pair and gear reducer series.(4)It also identifies the evaluation system of series reducer and illustrates reasonableoutput torque spectrum from the view of system engineering. The center distance of reducer isno longer reserved as the priority in advance, but calculated by the need of output torque anddistribution of gear strengthat all levels and transmission ratio.
