The foundation cost, as a direct impact on the economic indicators, takes a greatproportion of the total cost in multistory buildings. The widely used multistory building hasspecific requirements for basement foundation. Rational structures and economicconsiderations have been the eternal themes for designers. With the continuous developmentof science and technology, optimization methods are widely employed in engineering designand research. In the engineering field, a combination of design methods and optimizationmethods is of great significance for engineering practice. Economic structures with excellentperformance and remarkable mechanical property are worth studying.This thesis is a research about the basement foundation in multistory buildings, includingthe single column footing, single column footing with water-proof slab, raft foundation. Objectorientation program language VB is used for secondary development, which combines optimaldesign criteria and engineering practice. The main contributions in this thesis are as follows:(1) Based on the technology of AutoCAD Active X, VB programming language is usedfor software secondary development. The requirements of the superstructure are obtained anddisplayed graphically with CAD.(2) Based on the parametric idea, the footing parametrized model is built. Designvariables are hard to linerize like the step number, depth-to-width ratio, height and the width ofthe footing are cateloged. On the basis of this parametric idea, the optimization design criteriahave been used to optimize the single column footing on two levels in multistory buildings.The footing optimization design software has been developed accordingly.(3) Based on the calculation theory of single footing with waterproof slab, this thesisproposes a solution to choose the slab span length of the condition of different spacing ofcolumns, and combines the criteria method with enumeration method. The thickness of thewaterproof slab is optimized therefore. The optimization design software has been developedaccordingly.(4) Simplified calculation theory is used to optimize the raft foundation at two levels. Theoptimization design software has been developed accordingly.
