| In order to ease urban traffic congestion and reduce vehicle fuel consumption and emissions, exclusive bus lanes have been planned and implemented in many Chinese cities. However, the impact analysis on implementing exclusive bus lanes has been focused on passenger capacity, punctuality rate, operating speed and capacity. There is little impact analysis on exclusive bus lanes from the perspective of vehicle fuel consumption and emissions.Through studying the development of exclusive bus lanes and vehicle emission models, a method has been built to calculate vehicle fuel consumption and emissions in this paper. Then the impacts of exclusive bus lanes have been analyzed from the perspectives of traffic and environment. In order to achieve the above objective, at first, influential factors and mechanism of exclusive lanes on emissions have been analyzed. Emission data of buses and passenger cars have been collected by using dynamometer and Portable Emission Measurement System (PEMS). Meanwhile, Global Position System (GPS) devices have been used to collect the operating mode data of buses and passenger cars. Then, by combing vehicle emission models which are based on Vehicle Specific Power (VSP) with emission data and operating mode, databases of vehicle emission rate and operating mode distribution have been established. At last, according to the established databases, fuel consumption and emissions of buses and passenger cars have been analyzed for scenarios before and after the implementation of exclusive bus lanes on Jingtong expressway. The analysis results show that in morning and evening peak hours, the emission rate of all pollutants after the implementation are higher than those before the implementation. The emission factors of all the buses’ pollutants have been reduced in morning and evening peak hours and so are all the pollutants of passenger cars in evening peak hours. The emission of most of the buses’ pollutants in morning and evening peak hours and the emissions of passenger cars have been reduced. Except the pollutant of PM, the emission intensities of other pollutants of bus and passenger car have been reduced. In term of the total emissions, after the implementation of exclusive bus lanes, the fuel consumption, CO2, CO, HC, and NOx emissions have been reduced by25.16%,25.21%,26.02%,25.22%and18.83%respectively in peak hours. |
