Decoration Research On Traditional Architecture In South Region Of Fujian Province

Whether in the aspect of form or the architectural decoration and beautification,south Fujian traditional architecture owns its special expression and language whichformed its own distinctive regional style features, namely south Fujian red brick culturestyle. This thesis focuses on the study of south Fujian traditional architecturaldecoration from its shapes, materials, patterns, and expressive methods. Ever since theSouthern region became the starting point of the ancient Maritime Silk Road, itseconomic and cultural moved towards comprehensive prosperity. With the developmentof economy, south Fujian people combined the spirit of national culture and regionalfeatures that inheritd by generations with the eclectic characteristics of foreign culture,and creatively developed and formed the architecture and its decorative characterized bydistinctive local features, unique cultural and traditional connotations. With its sense ofuniqueness, it has become an important part of Chinese traditional architecture anddecoration which is still being paid a lot of attention to.Due to the open-minded attribute of south Fujian traditional architecturaldecoration, its development carried on the accumulated Chinese culture and the essenceof marine culture which eventually formed rich and strong characteristics of southFujian traditional architectural decoration under the interactive influences. Based on sitevisits and data collection, this paper focused on making deep analysis and research onthese characteristics of south Fujian traditional architectural decoration by tracing theformation and development of it which was impacted by geography, climate, history,economy, culture, folklore, and other factors of southern region. At the same time, toexplore the relationship and influence between architectural features and decorativefeatures from a macroscopic perspective, and then, from a micro-perspective, to make acomprehensive analysis on patterns such as human figures, animals, flora, fish andinsects and geometries covered in south Fujian architectural decoration, and therelationship between these patterns and culture, folklore, and other factors of southernregion; From the south Fujian traditional architectural decoration methods such as woodcarving, stone carving, tile carving, clay molding, porcelain carving and painting, toanalyze the relationship between the methods of south Fujian traditional decoration andthe formation of its distinctive local style features; from superb artistry of south Fujiantraditional architectural decoration such as line carving, relief, openwork carving, fullrelief and other decorative methods, to study the relationship between the artisticexpression of south Fujian traditional architectural decoration and its characteristicsthrough decorative work which are of proper depth, of accurate and vivid style, ofdelicate carving,Through this paper, I worked hard on traditional Chinese culture by making a listfrom its content to form, from performance to theory, to establish my understanding onthe traditional cultural values and decorative arts, as well as to improve my aesthetictaste, and grasp the essence of traditional culture and arts. By this research, it benefitsour inheritance of the essence of south Fujian traditional architectural decoration and theapplication of it in the modern architectural decoration. It also helps us to contribute tothe flourish of Chinese traditional culture with comprehensive understanding,innovative thinking and forward-looking vision.
