| The traditional landscape decoration, with thousands years of history, is a precious treasure to China, and its style, culture and art are unique. Residential gardens in Sunan area, as an excellent example of Chinese traditional residential garden, represent the highest level of Chinese traditional gardening practices and present the unique garden landscape decoration in this region. Its inimitable visual element and subtle decoration pattern demonstrate the valuable concept of ‘harmony with nature’.This paper will focus on the analysis of the landscape decoration pattern in traditional residential garden in Sunan area and discuss the value of landscape decoration and regional culture in contemporary landscape architecture with the comparison of the west and east landscape architectural theories.This paper has five chapters. The first chapter is the introduction which includes research background, the purpose and significance of this research, research progress in this field and the framework of this paper. The second chapter indicates the region of ‘Sunan Area’ and introduces the history of this area. The third chapter demonstrates the overview of the landscape cultural visually elements in Sunan Area, including garden landscape elements, garden buildings and residential landscape. A simple introduction to the landscape decoration pattern would be included in this chapter.The forth chapter present the result of the research of the traditional landscape decoration pattern in Sunan area with the analysis of brick carving, stone carving,wood carving and pavement in traditional Sunan residential garden landscape. The last chapter includes the conclusion of this paper and indicates the significance of this research.The research on landscape decoration pattern in residential garden in Sunan area is essential. It would draw more attention to Chinese traditional culture and history,and help us to develop splendid culture in the future. |
