As art of time, memories link reality with consciousness. An individual memory generated in longitudinal time flowing and changing records an instant consciousness scene during a course and can also seek occurrence of an event. Memory spatialization firstly appeared in ancient time, so people often comment on ancient buildings by various types of memory spatialization. People recover ancient buildings via various methods in order to obtain intentions and memories in the buildings. Hence, relations between memories and places shall be applied effectively in building design. During this course, consumption of these resources is mainly caused by large-scale demolition and construction of buildings. In addition, it is urgent for the building industry to reduce large-scale demolition and construction of buildings. Realization of sustainability and reuse of buildings becomes keys to realize sustainability of buildings and cities. Meanwhile, reservation and reuse of old buildings will further motivate memories of places and reflect spirit of places in design. The paper researches the reuse of old buildings from various aspects and puts forward some strategies and methodsBy researching relevant theories about application of memorial places and old buildings, the paper analyzes relations between memorial places and old building application. Based on investment and survey of relevant cases, the paper summarizes assessment methods for old building application and methods for application. In combination with the example about practical design about school relocation planning and construction design of Jianmin Middle School, the paper expects to apply the above methods in planning and building design which protect and apply old buildings to reflect place spirit under the background of increasingly severe urbanization.
