As the development of industry and technology, the use of large capacity, long distance, high speed, large-scale belt conveyor for bulk material handling has become the developmental mainstream. The impact of the bulk material is one of the problems affects the high speed running of belt conveyor, so we need to reasonably determine the pressure distribution of the material and solve the impact problem by the material. Because of the large number of idlers and the performance parameters of belt conveyor and idlers are closely linked, the reasonable choice of idler becomes very important. It is necessary to accurately determine pressure distribution of the material on the idlers to determine the idler load.Based on the characteristics of bulk materials and granular continuum model method, analyze the flow patterns of the materials in the silo. Using the Rankine theory, derives the calculation formula of the pressure of storage silo and discharge funnel, provides certain theoretical basis for the design of silo and funnel.In consideration of the influence of silo, funnel and guide chute, analyses the different loading patterns of bulk materials, and derives the calculation method of the impact load. Analysis the effect on the running resistance by the impact load, in consideration of the influence of the impact load, puts forward material shear resistance as a part of conveyor running resistance and derives the calculation method of the material shear resistance, derives the calculation formula of the skirt board friction resistance.Analyses the material state on the troughing carrying idler, calculates the gravity distribution of the material and belt on different idlers. Establishes the load model of the idlers, using the Rankine theory, derives the calculation formula of the side idler load and the central idler load, calculates the idler load precisely. According to the side idler load derives the calculation method of the forward tilt resistance by the idlers.Combined with practical examples, establishes the3D model of belt conveyor and uses EDEM software to simulate the loading process and the running process of a belt conveyor by discrete element method. Through the contrast of simulation results, the results by current standard calculation method and the results by the method which are mentioned in the paper, the accuracy of the skirt board resistance calculation method and the material gravity distribution on idlers calculation method are powerful verified.
