In recent years, Thunder has great influence on wire transmission on power. The over-voltage caused by thunder will threat the safety of the system. Surge protective devices are widely used on over-voltage protection of electric power system. Metal oxidized arrester is one of the surge protect device. MOA will deteriorate gradually under the operating voltage, and be moistened because of the structure. This will cause potential damages on the power transmission, and cause seriously accidents. In order to ensure the function of the MOA, the surveillance device is needed to mounted on the wire to monitor the state of the MOA on-line. This paper is discussed on the design of one kind of such surveillance device, which is using the leakage current on line, or abnormity of voltage during power transmission as fault features, based on single chip microcomputer with C8051F120, FM3164and SP3485. This device can operate real-time survey on the temperature, voltage and leakage current of the MOA on the wire through remote monitor. This device can provide relative data for people to monitor the statue of the MOA in surveillance centre. People can collect data and analyzed the historical data to ensure the stable operation the power transmission system.
