With the rapid development of higher education, most university campuses have been expanding their horizons. University Town has been recently built within a suburb of city. As stated above, the landscape of the campus would cover some parts of the urban river, which has suffered from the negative effects of urbanization and industrialization. To enable it to become a specific part of campus, the river needs to bring its superior attraction, unique landscape characteristics and cultural factors into the campus landscape. The landscape architects also have to ensure there is a balance, between the environmental factors and the ecology of the landscape, making the two complement each other.Using the system of linguistics research methods, the dissertation will explore how to build a theoretical system of the River Landscape Architecture within the Campus. Combining the core methods of Chinese traditional landscape culture, the dissertation will analyse the design theory of River Landscape Architecture within the Campus, which will prove to be theoretically significant and will ensure practical operability. The main part of the dissertation consists of two parts, the first part based on the "Landscape campus" and Chinese traditional landscape culture, utilising linguistic research methods for constituting the theory of the campus river landscape design. The second part confirms the theory has been explored to investigate the practical strategies and applications for Lingshui River of Dalian University of Technology. In summary, the dissertation and analysis has made some theoretical progress and it would benefit, when referencing, the related fields of inspirational study.
