With the rapid development of the domestic highway, traffic accidents onhighway surged, particularly serious accidents which usually caused by drivingfatigue. But diving itself is a complex physical and mental activity, which willgradually lead to driver fatigue and can result in distraction, slows down the reactionrate, all of above can easily cause traffic accidents.At present, Chinese road traffic management departments applies strictmanagement at all levels of market access for vehicles, employees, and transportenterprises. The management before accidents is standardized, but it still lacks ofappropriate initiative vehicle warning technology when the vehicle is running, whiledriving fatigue is latent, and difficult to detect by self-consciousness, or even foundbut not in time, and through developing laws and regulations to avoid driving fatigueis more difficult. If we could quickly and effectively detect driving fatigue, accidentswill be avoided and the losses will be reduced considerably. So the study on thedriving fatigue and distraction caused by long time driving can effectively reduce thefrequency of malignant road accidents.Relying on the project “The Bus Driver Fatigue State Monitoring and EarlyWarning System”, this paper try to find out a quantitative approach of driving fatiguebased on the physiological index data of driver, and its main research content is theearly theoretical basis of the project.The main research content of this article is as follows:1) Analyzed the mechanism of the driving fatigue and its factors. Introducedthe research about the driving fatigue and detection methods based on physiologicalsignals at home and abroad, did comparative analysis of the advantages anddisadvantages of various types of research methods, and thus identified the researchidea of this paper.2) Analyzed the impacts for driving safety of driving fatigue objectively.Utilized the analysis model of braking distance to show the severity of the drivingfatigue influence to the traffic safety.3) Analyzed the EEG’s important role in driving fatigue study, and designedthe driving fatigue simulation experiment, built a driving fatigue simulation platform to collect driver’s physiological signals while driving, and lay the data foundation forthis article follow-up study.4) Did the research on the quantization of driving fatigue under the existingconditions. Designed and carried out the driving simulation experiment, and theresults data of the driving fatigue simulation experiment was analyzed and processed,and then extracted EEG indexes R of this study. Explore the variation of R valueswhen the driver in severe fatigue, mild fatigue and sober state. And on this basis, thispaper proposed a driving fatigue quantification method based on physiologicalindexes.From what has been described above, this paper studied the relationship amongphysiological indicators, reaction time and driving fatigue. And this paper developed amethod using reaction time as direct index to monitor driving fatigue state, providedeffective auxiliary for driver’s safe driving, and lay theoretical basis for the latedevelopment and design of the driving fatigue monitoring and early warning device.
