A wire flexible shaft can be bent,transmit torque and help mechanical do non linear transmission, such as changing direction, speed and so on. Especially in the long, narrow, curved or obstacle occasion,a wire flexible shaft can show its superiority. At present, the steel wire flexible shaft has been widely used the aviation, automobile, machinery manufacturing and other industries.Previously, people often according to empirical methods to design a wire flexible shaft, but usually wire flexible shafts can not meet the requirements of strength because of selecting improper diameter. In recent years, researchers have done some research in the theoretical calculation of the steel wire flexible shaft stress intensity and deformation stiffness,but it does not completely solve the practical problems what we encountered. The finite element technique is a kind of technique which combine engineering method with mathematical method.Using the technology,we can calculate many complex parts’strength and rigidity and the accuracy can meet the engineering need. If we apply it to the design of flexible shaft, we will get better results.This paper uses the finite element method, to the design of flexible shaft, The specific work of this paper is as follows:First, the steel wire flexible shaft was calculated in theory. Secondly, explain how to analyze the steel wire flexible shaft using ANSYS.Then,select the test to do the reverse experiment and analyze the experimental results. Compared the three results,we can see that not only its workload is small, but the calculation precision is higher using finite element method to design flexible shaft and the results agree with the reality.In addition,the balance between the amount of calculation and the accuracy is very crucial for the project.
