With the development of intelligent equipment, advanced of sensor measurements technology and IEC61850 standard applications, the reliable, safe, economical, efficient and environmentally friendly smart grid becomes an inevitable trend. As an important support of strong smart grid, smart substation has entered to the construction phase. Protection system is the first line of defense of the power system, so its reliability has been widespread concerned when changes take a range of benefits. This paper studies the reliability assessment of intelligent substation relay, the main work is as follows:Firstly, for microcomputer relay protection of intelligent substation, summarizes the generalized reliability index system of relay protection. The establishment of the principle of generalized reliability protection index is proposed. Then reliability index system is summarized from equipment reliability, speed and mobility, durability, maintenance and economy in five areas. At last a relative value algorithm is proposed to do a detailed analysis combined with the actual data, and lay the foundation for the reliability further in-depth analysis. Then, for all-digital protection system of intelligent substation, a fuzzy Markov model under a variety of structures is proposed which make up the problem that traditional reliability analysis method can not take advantage of the discrete data. It compares the reliability difference under different redundant structures and different functions. And it analyses the effects on the whole system reliability from differen unit itself under different structures to look for the weaknesses of digital protection system.Furthermore, it proposes a comprehensive reliability assessment method for all-digital protection system. First, the typical evaluation index which can characterize the protection system status are selected from the space and time dimensions, and the indicators hierarchical model will be established. Then, based on the theory of fuzzy comprehensive assessment it determines the degree of membership with the triangular and trapezoidal functions and the weights calculated by Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). Finally, through the analysis of specific data it achieves a comprehensive assessment of digital protection systems in smart substations.
