| To upgrade China’s energy consumption in the direction of clean manner, the State Grid Cooperation of China, which is the largest utility of China, has launched the Smart Grid Project and its strategy can be summarized as "One object, Two routes, Three stages, Four systems, Five component, and Six parts."The Smart substations as well as the relevant technology are the core of the smart grid. Recently, thousands of hundreds of smart substations has been built up all over China. The author, as a engineer with Ningbo Power Company, witnessed the rapid development of the smart substations, especially that of the Ningbo Power Company. The design, construction, operation, maintenance as well as the technical bottleneck of the smart substation technology is clearly understood by the author. From my point of view, the current technology, training manner, etc., cannot meet the requirement of the smart grid and the technology is heavily dependent on the manufacturer of the IED devices rather than the engineers of the power companies.Presently, the system structure, called three layers and two networks, are normally employed by the majority of smart substations, and the IED devices, remote operation devices and the servers are generally incorporated together into an integrated system. This thesis mainly focused on the communication networks, communication devices, clock synchronization system and the integrating operational system of smart substation. Based on the research status over the world, the issues associated with the above systems were discussed and the trend of the new generation of smart substation was predicted. Finally, the encountered problem as well as the practical suggestions on the advanced application of smart substation was presented.This thesis not only presents useful references for the development of smart substation, but also provides a good guideline for its advanced application. |
