Earthquake occurs more frequently and the intensity is serious. In recent years, the friction pendulum isolation technology has been widely applied because of its good isolation performance. Isolation structure not only improve the safety and comfort level of building, reduce the damage of the upper structure, but also maintain the normal use of internal equipment and cut down project cost. The researchers in China and abroad make the study of isolation structure under horizontal and vertical direction independently, the discuss on three-dimensional structure is lesser. Based on this situation, combining with an instance of a certain airport terminal, the article compare seismic response before and after isolation with ABAQUS, to provide the beneficial reference and technical support for the practical design and promote its development of application. The following work has been done:1) The friction pendulum isolation principle and model theory were discussed, in addition, the dynamic motion equation of composite friction pendulum isolation system was studied. For the finite element module involved in the model (rigid body, contact analysis, connection, etc) are researched and summarized primarily.2) Based on ABAQUS, parametric design was conducted for the common friction pendulum isolation bearing and the dynamic characteristics before and after isolation were compared. The basic natural vibration period was extended by the introduction of fiction pendulum bearing and basic mode shows that the system achieves a good isolation effect that make structure translate integrally.3) The horizontal seismic response of upper structure under ground motion were simulated. We also summarized the seismic response pattern under different parameters (slideway radius and friction coefficient) and analyzed the bidirectional earthquake’s effect on the isolation result.4) The butterfly spring group was selected as vertical vibration isolation device and its mechanical parameter was studied. Comparison of vertical seismic response was analyzed to verify the vibration isolation performance.5) The new three dimensional composite friction pendulum was made up of normal friction pendulum and butterfly spring. By contrasting with seismic response of traditional anti-seismic structure, we analyzed the isolation performance of the composite device in all directions and researched the coupling effect of horizontal and vertical isolation.
