Data communication network is a neural network for a microgrid andplays an important role in transmission of control commands and data and guarantees the normal operation of the microgrid. However, the current communication standards for microgrids present diversification in the process of data exchange, which is not conducive to the energy management system for a microgrid for data integration and management. A data exchanging model based on IEC61850 is presented in this paper. In the model the IEC618500 international standard is used in microgrids, which has an important significance for the realization of intelligent microgrid.Main work and innovation in the paper are presented as follows:1. Referring to the features of IEC61850 in the intelligent substation, the IEC 61850-based communication structure in a microgrid is divided into three layers: process layer, protocol conversion layer and control and management layer. A new modeling method is proposed in this paper. According to the method the distributed generation unit or a load unit is taken as a whole objective to build information model.2. The method to automatically generate the IEC61850 model file (ICD) is proposed in this paper, which enables the automatic mapping between the actual model of the microgrid and the IEC61850 model to realize the automatic generation of IEC61850 model file and data path.3. A Client/Server frame is proposed and designed in the SCAD A/EMS to apply the proposed data exchange model. The IEC61850 Client and Server are also designed and developed. At the same time, a series of tests for the IEC61850 client are tested, including the optimization of data storage and data acquisition. The optimization makes the data acquisition more rapid and efficient.4. The proposed IEC6150-based data exchange model is tested according to the microgrid experimental platform of HeFei University of Technology.
